When The Rose Dies

A teen couple gets separated by a young suicide.

Paid actors, all of them. Emotions are paid to be true to them. Nobody truly cares about anyone in this world, and it's the exact same way for her. Except for him. He was still here and she left him alone. She didn't think it mattered enough to stay. She was sad enough that he didn't matter.

In an endless pillar of darkness, she was his beacon of light. He was all alone now, being swallowed up by the darkness that swallowed her. In her last moments, he hoped that she was thinking of him, but he doubted it. Obviously he was the furthest thing from her mind. He didn't matter.

After school that day, he found himself at home, scrolling through the photos of her on his phone. So happy, smiling in the park, at the movies, and so many places. That

smile that made his day reminded him of the emptiness he now felt. His dad walked into his room, wobbling. That wasn't a good sign. Shouts could be heard from across the street, venom being spit from both directions. A lash that sounded like it could've been heard from galaxies away.

"One more day. I swear to God, one more day," he thought with venom pursing his thoughts. He hoped that she was in a better place now. But she should've been with him. Even if both of their lives sucked, they were going to get through it together.

At school the next day, he heard the bullies weep their fake tears about her. Their emotions that meant nothing. "They did this to her. They should pay," he thought. With that in mind, he approached the bullies.
