Beneath the Foreverblue

A city floating in the sky. What could go wrong?

He stared at them, hoping they wouldn't toss him into greenocean. His back was straight and his eyes bright. He wanted to look as unthreatening as possible. He wanted to look like what he was, a young man with a dream.

They looked him up and down, asked him some questions, then dismissed him. His heart sank. Had they refused him? Was that it? He knew he shouldn't have, but he asked out of turn, "Are you not even going to tell me if you think I am unworthy to work under the HighCouncil in the city of Volitia? Are you just going to dismiss me and forget that the meeting ever happened?"

The leader stood up and Tailor slowly took a step back. The leader told him to approach him. Hesitantly, he did.

"You have moxy, son" said the Elder.

"I apologize,

sir." was all Tailor replied with.

The Elder smiled and patted his back.

"Son," he said, "you are an ambitious young man. But you have to prove you are more than just the son of a tinkerer." He walked the boy to the edge of the greenocean. "Look down there, what do you see?"

"Darkness." Tailor said.

"And you want to investigate this darkness?" asked the Elder.

Tailor prayed that the Elder wouldn't push him in. "Yes, sir" he responded.

After a minute of studying the boy, the Elder pulled him into an embrace. "Then welcome. From this day forth, you shall work with us. Now go home, and say goodbye to your family."

"My family? Why?" the boy asked.

"Because," he said with a smile, "you're going into the foreverblue."
