Chapter One: The Letter

Lily Evans gets her letter to Hogwarts

It was five in the afternoon and Lily Evans was bored. She was sitting on the edge of her bed, thinking of the homework she still had to do. She would much rather be spending this time reading. She got up and looked out of her window. There was a man with a bag hanging off of his shoulder.
The mailman. She thought. Finally. Something for me to do…
She walked out of her room and went down the stairs. Her father was sitting on the couch, reading the paper, and her mother was in the kitchen making something that smelled like roast beef.
“I'm going to get the mail.” She called to her father as she walked to the front door.
“Okay dear. Come right back, okay?” her mother hailed.
“Yes mother.”
Lily opened the door and walked down the front steps to the mailman.
“Good morning, isnt it?” He exclaimed to her.

“Quite nice, yes.” She replied.
He handed her a stack of letters and she took them. He turned to go but stopped.
“Tell your mother I said hi, will you?” He asked.
“Yes sir.” She mentally rolled her eyes. He was in love with her mother, and had been since they met at school.
He smiled and walked away. She turned to go back in her house and started flipping through the mail.
Bill, bill, letter for mum, junk-
There was a letter for her.
Curious, she thought. She rarely got letters. As she stepped inside she said, “Mum, Mr. Jenkins says hello again.”
She walked over to her father, who was still sitting on the couch, and handed him everything except for her letter. He looked up in time to see her sit and start opening it.
She unfolded the paper and read:

She handed her father the letter and let him read. She followed his eyes, and when it passed ‘school of witchcraft and wizardry’ he started looking confused. As he finished the letter, he looked up at his daughter with a questioning expression.
She scanned the paper again and saw at the bottom a little note.
Come to 48 Charing Cross Road, London. Here you will find a place called the Leaky Cauldron. Enter and ask for a barman called Tom. Muggle’s are not able to see this place.
