Piece 6- a writer and an actress

An actress plots against her infamous ex

The two sat down the following morning over a cup of coffee. The musician perked up. Asking what he had heard about the actress. The writer replied… She’s in a new movie, and that she was no longer struggling and the likes of which she was dating a new guy. The musician almost puked instantaneously shaking as he gathered himself. the writer was a strangely apathetic to him and could feel his love slipping down the drain towards a lesser thought, and one of a strange depression. “who is he”? was the first question that arose to through the struggling musicians mind. The musician suddenly picked up and his eyes became furtive once more erratically behaving as paranoid as he measured up the nearby guests always wary that someone could be watching, waiting to jump on his story. The tabloids had done a job on him, but he had taken it well, it was the fame and publicity and the absolute maximum threshold on stage that he acquired that always lingered in the back of his mind, plaguing him with

fits of anxiety and worry. The writer pressed down on the table firmly with one hand, and into his jacket pocket with the other. He pulled out a news article he written just months ago. “Fame, Hollywood, and the sober individual”. What is this replied Nicholas… just read it. To start out, How could I ever live up to such a label… In fame, In Hollywood, everything drastically changes away from the sober individual. The actress runs away with a new man, the musician has run off, off some beaten path, the likes of which never to be seen again and suddenly there’s a tabloid that follows the man through China. What more could be worse in the world? That’s what I ask myself every morning. How can someone such as the pristine musician slip through the cracks on an early morning day? I start my day off with sobriety…. I’ve kicked cocaine, I’ve kicked alcohol, I wake up every morning scouring the press for the article… And everyday it hits me in the same, sympathetic way (sarcasm). Nicholas Riviera

where are you I ask myself. We all know about the actress, making headlines in Hollywood, what we don’t hear about is the musician, who winds his way through a great sober day everyday. He slips through the shadow and once an outsider he starts to blend in with the crowd. He still plays guitar, he still writes music, his love for tea remains ever present. So I ask myself, in all this lost shuffle, in all this lost mess, in everything we know, or knew, who wins and who loses. The girl runs away with a new man, the guy wakes every morning in humidity, and searches to the ends of the earth for new substances. I’ve heard glimpses of what he’s written and he swears that he won’t show it to anybody. I tell him that he has to come back; he responds that China is his newest love and home. He sends me short clips of choruses, and my mind wanders endlessly. He’s the greatest musician ever known, that simply isn’t allowed to play… and there are several reasons. For one, as he claims, everyone will

perceive this as a breakup album in which he dictates it isn’t. For two everyone will claim that he’s sold his sole to China, he claims, he has. For three, notoriety doesn’t quite agree with him. For four, he’s simply had enough. We take a trip to a skateboard park on a late afternoon. He claims watching it helps him relax. I can’t understand why I have the same love and affection for the same things he has. He’s a vivid version of my younger self and my older wisdom altogether. He stands in stark contrast to the world and those that surround him. His dark resonant features reside from within, and not from the spirit of the earth does he wander. When he wanders, and some times for hours, he always comes back with something special. I tell him to stop eating shark fin soup, that they’re killing innocent animals; he says he won’t stop eating local delicacies and that he likes seals more. A lot more from the likes of what I can gather.
